FOSS R&D

Embedded software developer for new embedded platform

Innovating with purpose
At FOSS, we are driven by a strong sense of purpose, and we hope you are too. A fast-growing world population means that the global food production will have to increase by 60% by 2030 to meet demand. We want to come up with smarter ways to make the best use of agricultural resources, and to help eliminate food waste.

As we are right now drafting the first architecture lines for our brand-new embedded software platform, we are looking for a new embedded developer to join our team and help us give our customers a great user experience. If that sounds like something you would like to get out of bed every Monday morning, then read on.

“As an embedded software developer at FOSS, I combine motors, lasers, spectrometers, and all sorts of other components into instruments that make food production smarter and more sustainable around the world. No two instruments are the same, and each one brings new challenges and opportunities to learn something new.” – Gustav Vinther-Jørgensen, Senior SW engineer

The workday you can look forward to
The R&D Software department is split into business unit teams and a platform team. The business unit teams deliver the SW for the end products, whereas the platform team develops the common functionality. You will be working in the platform team. The team is responsible for delivering functionality that goes across all instruments. In this role, you will work closely with other software developers in the platform team and developers in the business units, the takers of the embedded SW platform.

We are right now drafting the first lines in the architecture of our brand-new embedded platform. The new platform will be supporting the next generation of FOSS analytical solutions.

Your primary tasks will be to work with design, development and maintenance of instruments embedded software. These instruments are used by our customers in factories, production lines or as part of quality control in laboratories. This means a high focus on uptime, failsafe mechanisms and not only the instrument, but also the environment in which the instrument operated.

It is important that you have low-level hardware knowledge and structured approach since our software platform runs on a distributed real-time multiprocessor system using Zephyr and embedded Linux.

Your daily work will be at the FOSS Innovation Centre in Hillerød, Denmark, and we expect you to work on-site to support better internal collaborations.

What will make you fit in well
We imagine that you have:

  • Experience as software engineer or computer scientist
  • Experience with developing embedded software in C++ and Embedded Linux
  • Low level processor and hardware knowledge
  • Experience with Bluetooth connectivity
  • A genuine interest in instrument development

To succeed in this role, you’ll be largely self-organizing, take initiative & ownership of your area. You have excellent problem-solving skills and hold the courage to flag problem areas. You master the art of simplicity. You are pragmatic and solution oriented, as our solutions in the platform must cover the needs of more than one usage, and be easy to maintain in the future. You are a team-player, and you communicate status clearly to ensure alignment in the team. If you are passionate about Continuous Integration (CI) in Azure DevOps it’s regarded as a plus, but not a requirement. If you are a graduate, you are best in class at master level with an excellent overview and system understanding. You know your syntax and can solve complex problems.
