FOSS R&D

Data Scientist

FOSS is seeking a dedicated Data Scientist with strong expertise in chemometrics, spectral modeling, experimental design, and a solid understanding of food and food production systems. As part of our Data Science team, under FOSS R&D, you will play a key role in developing the data chain that ensures FOSS instruments are robust, reliable and can deliver analytical insights based on data science and algorithms.

You will collaborate closely with specialists across multiple disciplines and take ownership of communicating and documenting your work to stakeholders within the organization. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact on FOSS’ future innovation and contribute to solutions that optimize food production - from raw materials to finished products - supporting a more sustainable use of the world’s resources.

What you will do

As a part of an experienced data science team at FOSS you will take responsibility for developing and validating the data chain in our New Product Development (NPD) projects. Working closely together with the measuring chain team, who are experts in spectroscopic technology, you will:

  • Develop the data chain from raw data input to results, primarily working in MATLAB and within FOSS NPD processes.
  • Document your findings and work, and communicate them to relevant stakeholders
  • Assist and review your colleagues’ work across different instrument development projects
  • Give technical input to early phase NPD projects and innovation
  • Collaborate with domain experts and customers to understand operational workflows, identify analytical opportunities, and ensure solutions align with real-world needs.

The position is full time, and your daily work will be at the FOSS Innovation Center in Hillerød, Denmark. Travel activity in relation to customer visits can be expected.

We are ready to welcome our new colleague as soon as possible.

Professional and personal competences

You hold an MSc or a PhD degree in relevant engineering disciplines such as chemometrics, data science, food science, chemistry, or similar, and have qualifications within the following areas:

  • In-depth experience with modelling of instrumental data including multivariate regression techniques (e.g. PLS, ANN) and multivariate exploratory methods (e.g. PCA)
  • Skilled in MATLAB (main tool), Python or similar tools including use of toolboxes for data handling and analysis, as well as chemometrics.
  • Knowledge of, and preferably experience with, spectroscopy or similar multivariate data generating instrumental solutions.
  • Keen interest in the synergy between instrument and data analysis to develop algorithms and procedures for instruments, quality control tests and application development.
  • Familiarity with best practices in chemometric modelling and experimental design
  • Good in written documentation skills in English.

As a person you are structured and collaborative when part of a cross-disciplinary team. You’re curious about new problems and thrive on understanding and solving tasks. Your record of accomplishments shows an ability to understand complex systems and to work systematically with troubleshooting, incl. designing and performing experiments. Further, you are open-minded and want to succeed as a team and help your colleagues. Key to succeeding in development projects as a data scientist is the ability to plan, coordinate and communicate results to a diverse group of project members and stakeholders.

If you recognize yourself in the above description, we look forward to hearing from you.
